SCAM is an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded project whose aims are to share understanding across scientific disciplines regarding approaches used to modelling complex phenomena. In particular it addresses three issues. First, given that data are finite what is the appropriate balance between simplicity and complexity required in modelling complex data? Second, where more than one plausible candidate model is used, how should forecasts be combined? Third, where model uncertainty exists, how should this uncertainty be propagated into predictions?
The hope is that the SCAM project will enable scientific modellers with different backgrounds and with different fields of application to learn from each other.
